Marketplace Operators: Start With the Money Flow

·6 min read

Every marketplace eventually hits the same wall: a refund on a partially fulfilled order, a disputed payout, or a vendor who needs a custom commission tier. If your payment model wasn’t designed with those cases in mind, you patch in spreadsheets and manual bank transfers.

Before UX mockups consume the budget, document the money flow: who pays whom, when funds are captured, when they’re released, and how platform fees are calculated. Stripe Connect and similar tools offer patterns—but your business rules still need an owner.

Vendor onboarding should match risk: lightweight for low-stakes categories, stricter for regulated goods or high chargeback profiles. Doing KYC for everyone on day one often kills supply acquisition.

Aliphplus helps operators sequence MVP scope: prove liquidity in one category, harden payouts and reporting, then expand. The platform should grow with GMV—not collapse under the first holiday spike.
